EQUAL PAY PENSIONS TRANSFER YOUR MEMBERSHIP TO DIRECT DEBIT TODAY We encourage all GMB members to transfer their membership to direct debit. This prevents your membership from lapsing should there be any issues with pay.
It also makes it easier for amendments to be made if you change your contracted hours or move workplaces. You can transfer to direct debit by completing an application form with your direct debit details on and sending it to GMB, Grove Hall, 60 College Grove Road, Wakefield WF1 3RN. Application forms should be available in your staff room. Or please call 0345 337 7777 and we will be happy to send one out to you. Alternatively, you can transfer to direct debit by telephone.
All you need to do is speak to our Finance Department who can also be contacted on 0345 337 7777. If you have a Workplace Representative at your store they should be able to assist you with this. Or you can contact GMB on 0345 337 7777 to arrange a store visit where you can complete your direct debit details and transfer your GMB membership. GMB NEEDS MORE WORKPLACE REPS The GMB is currently looking for new GMB Shop Stewards, Health and Safety Representatives and Union Learner Representatives within ASDA Stores, ASDA Living Stores and ASDA Supermarkets. GMB Representatives are entitled to paid time off to attend meetings with other ASDA Representatives and training provided by the GMB.
GMB Representatives play an important role in organising the GMB in their workplace, advising and representing members on work related issues and dealing with health and safety matters. If you are interested in putting yourself forward for one of these roles please contact GMB on 0345 337 7777 for further information. BEWARE OF FACEBOOK, TWITTER AND OTHER SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES GMB has seen an increase in disciplinary and dismissals as a result of social networking internet sites. Many of our members think that as their facebook and twitter accounts are personal, what they do with them has no affect on their employment. This is incorrect! GMB advises all of its members not to discuss anything regarding your company, workplace or colleagues on any internet site.
If your employer sees you have written anything regarding any of these you may be subject to disciplinary action. If the company believe your words to be of bringing the company into disrepute, your actions can be gross misconduct and lead to your dismissal. Remember, social networking sites can be accessed by anyone and therefore be aware of what information you disclose.

Worst place I have worked for. They are really friendly to begin with but after a month or so they don't know who you are. The management in almost non-existent especially at Cheltenham.

They can reduce your hours at any given moment and even though they say its not a zero hours contract it actually is. They will give you the hours they want and change them how they please. Home Shopping is even worse. DO NOT drive for Asda. Lowest pay in the sector (£7.83) and they do not give you enough time for deliveries and the driver has to play customer services explaining why your late or why their shopping has gone past the sell by date (which is often).
Generally a good job, vast majority of the time spent on the road just doing the job to your best ability. Negatives of the job come from the management both in store and in the higher levels, with decisions made regarding how we do our jobs, and practises maintained that impact how well we can do our jobs.
Things like routing for our delivery runs (which is done for us and we have little say over) not taking into account roads with low bridges and tight roads that we can't get down, and giving us drive times that are only possible with roads completely clear of other traffic. Failure to employ enough in house staff to help load vehicles and organise the drivers loads in the hub, and then complaints from management when drivers fail to leave the store on time. Ignorance from management of Domestic Driving rules that apply to drivers of commercial vehicles below 3.5 tonnes, meaning drivers of regularly asked to drive for more hours than is legal. Other than issues arising from these things it was a job I thoroughly enjoyed doing.
